Over-50s festival

There's some festival or other on in York every day of the year, from 'Ebor races' to 'Early Music', 'Food and Drink' to 'Fossgate', 'Vikings', 'Angels' and plenty more - well we now have a festival for the over-50s and it runs from 20th September to 6th October.

Too early for Christmas you say? Never!

Find out more at Tang Hall library. Ah, Tang Hall library. Where do I start? How can words do justice to your majesty? A glittering beacon on what is currently a building site, but will one day become a high-tech neon space-age complex with residential care homes, a GP surgery and, I'm told, a unicorn sanctuary. Well the library at least is a complete godsend. As well as having a lovely cafe, did you know your GP can recommend you a book 'on prescription', or 'BOP'? What a fantastic acronym. There's a wide range of books available in York for patients to help with chronic pain, insomnia, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, CBT, dementia and more. Check out the list here or speak to one of the friendly library team.

Added to this, Tang Hall library is a social prescribing hub, which means they co-ordinate and host a huge number of groups, and the friendly staff there can point you in the direction of loads of events, courses, charities and more, many of which are free. They have an awesome display up at the moment advertising the over 50s festival and kindly let me take some pics (below) with all the key dates on. Know someone over 50? A friend or family member? Your boss? Perhaps they're looking to get fit, find friends, regain a routine after retiring from a hectic job, seek some adult company to balance looking after grandchildren, or support with a physical or mental health condition?

Look at these awesome activities and see what tickles your fancy. Have a hankering to play hockey? Mad about York Minster? Burning desire to make a bird feeder? Bahai'ism? Potty about Parkrun? Keen on Qi Gong? Secretly a sewer - not the waste-drainage type (fatbergs, ahem) - but needle and thread? Or simply fancy a cuppa and chat?

We've also got a nice fat catalogue on Reception at Copmanthorpe so feel free to browse whilst you wait for your appointment. Or of course speak to one of our friendly GPs, like Dr Alex Beach and Dr Uwa Sanusi who are this week celebrating 1 happy year of being part of the OSMP team. Congratulations!

Click here for more info on the festival, grab your maracas (optional - come on, it's a festival after all) and spread the word!
